July 10, 2024 (Kemptville, ON) – In the fall of 2023, North Grenville District High School (NGDHS) students took a significant step towards integrating Real-World Learning (RWL) into their education with the launch of the NG Knights Media Marketing Team.

The student-led and school-based business is designed to provide local businesses with professional-quality marketing services, including video production, photography, graphic design, promotional materials, and social media management. Next school year, the current Grade 11 students will be taking over the NG Knights Media Marketing Team as they move into Grade 12, ensuring the continuity and growth of the initiative.

During the school year, the NG Knights Media Marketing Team had the opportunity to present their services to the Mayor of North Grenville and other local businesses. This meeting was a success and lead to exciting collaborations. Among their first projects, the team worked on a comprehensive social media marketing strategy for Ben’s BS Barbeque Sauce. They are also in discussions with Lockwood Brothers Construction to explore how their media services can support the company’s marketing efforts.

In addition to these business ventures, the NG Knights Medial Marketing Team is celebrating a significant student achievement. Jacob Smith, a dedicated team member, secured a summer job with the Municipality of North Grenville.

Smith, who will be attending Algonquin College in the fall to study Music Industry Arts, expressed his gratitude for this opportunity.

“Thanks to Teaching and Learning Partner Derick Casselman, I was able to get a job based on my real-world learning work from class. What an amazing idea to have our schoolwork based in the community. Real-world learning is the way every classroom should work,” he said.

“Jacob is a very talented student, and it was because of his hard work that he got this role. This is real-world learning at its finest,” added Casselman.

The NG Knights Media Marketing Team exemplifies the benefits of integrating real-world business experiences into the educational curriculum. By working closely with local businesses, students gain practical skills and valuable experience, while businesses receive affordable and innovative marketing solutions.
