Mental Health & Well-Being

Providing a mentally healthy and well-being environment for students to learn and grow are crucial for the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB). With an overarching goal of ensuring all students feel that their school is safe and inclusive, has a positive influence on their mental health and wellness, and fosters a sense of belonging are paramount to helping them reach their fullest potential.

The UCDSB is focused on building mental health literacy for students, their families, and staff. This means improving the understanding of how to foster and maintain good mental health, learning about mental health disorders, and developing skills for effective help-seeking. For students with emerging or escalating mental health concerns, the UCDSB strives to provide timely, responsive support, and help to navigate local community mental health services. These needs are addressed using well-established evidence-based protocols such as Suicide Prevention, Intervention and Risk Review Protocol. This protocol is a strategy developed by and for school boards and community agencies that helps provide consistent caring responses for students and children in the community.

The UCDSB has developed a 3-Year Mental Health and Addictions Strategy and Annual Action Plan, which outlines board strategic priorities and how the priorities will be addressed during the 2024-2025 school year.
