UCDSB Secures Ministry Funding for New Brockville School

November 30, 2018 (Brockville) -

The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) is excited to announce that it has received financial support of up to $1.6 million from the Ontario Ministry of Education, which is a key component to moving forward with building a new public elementary school in Brockville.

The new school will be built on 14.3 acres of land located at 550 King Street West in Brockville, and is part of a joint project with the City of Brockville to enhance the community’s educational and recreational infrastructure to accommodate long-term growth and sustainability. This new state-of-the-art school will replace Commonwealth Public School and Toniata Public School and is expected to open in September 2022.

“Securing this funding from the province is one of the major stepping stones to making this plan a reality. There is still some work to be done but this funding brings us closer to our goal of providing families in Brockville with a new learning space that will accommodate up to 500 students,” said UCDSB Director of Education Stephen Sliwa. “We are very appreciative to have the Ministry of Education’s approval and support on this project.”

The UCDSB Board of Trustees approved the conditional purchase of the land in June 2018. News of this funding represents a major step forward in clearing the conditions of sale.

“It’s a proud and exciting moment whenever we can provide our communities with schools and facilities that will serve them well throughout their educational career and beyond,” added UCDSB Chair of the Board Jeff McMillan.
