Students Recognized for Academic Success at Hall of Excellence Ceremony

The Upper Canada District School Board's Brockville Collegiate Institute held its annual Hall of Excellence ceremony on Saturday, November 17, honouring approximately 90 students with Faculty Awards and inducting two former graduates into the Hall of Excellence.

The ceremony began with Faculty Awards that were presented to BCI students with the top marks in each course of the 2017-18 school year. For the full list of Faculty Awards recipients, click here.

The second part of the ceremony consisted of the induction of the Honourable Grant R. Dow and Professor Dan Healey. The Hall of Excellence honours BCI graduates who have had significant success in their fields since graduation and who have set an example for current BCI students.

Dow is an appointed judge of the Superior Court of Justice in the Toronto Region. He attended BCI from 1971 to 1975. After graduation, he attained a Bachelor of Arts at Brock University and his Bachelor of Law from the University of Western Ontario in. Dow was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1983.

Healey is a current professor at St. Anthony’s College, University of Oxford, where he teaches Modern Russian History. Healey also attended BCI from 1971 to 1975. Since then, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Russian Language and Literature from the University of Toronto. From there, he earned a Masters in Soviet Area Studies at the University of London and a Masters of History at the University of Toronto. He completed his PhD in History at the University of Toronto in 1998.

Past inductees have been honoured for their accomplishments and contributions in the fields of agriculture, the arts, athletics, business, community service, education, finance, humanitarian aid, law, media, medicine, military service, sciences, theatre and writing.

“I am very proud of the BCI students, both past and present, that have achieved greatness in their academic work,” said BCI Principal Chris Boston. “I am sure that we will be hearing similar success stories in the future from our current students.”
