October 23, 2018 (Pakenham, ON) – Pakenham Public School (PPS) marked its 50th anniversary on the weekend, celebrating the school’s contribution to the community.
The celebrations consisted of an evening open house on Friday, October 19 organized by school staff, followed by a community dance on Saturday night organized by School Council at the Stewart Community Centre.
The open house, held in the school foyer and gymnasium, attracted 100 people. It featured tables filled with memorabilia such as old sports uniforms and yearbooks. During a ceremony in the gym, Bruce Martin, the school’s first principal, spoke of PPS’s early years. The school’s ukulele band played a song specially written for the occasion.
“It was great to see so many former students and staff return to the school,” said Principal Dave Balfour. “It really spoke to how strong the connection is between our school and the community.”
