Glengarry District High School Places Second at
EOSSAA Jr. Boys’ A Volleyball Championship

(Perth) Glengarry District High School

placed second Wednesday at the 2016 Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (EOSSAA) Junior Boys’ A Volleyball Championship in Perth.

The Gaels fought hard, but were swept in three sets by École secondaire catholique de Plantagenet in the final match, held at Perth and District Collegiate Institute. The Gaels fell to Plantagenet 25-19, 25-20 and 15-10.

Coach Randi Tolhurst said the Plantagenet team had balance, strong in both their attacks and their blocking, which effectively shut down the strong hitters on the Gaels’ squad that had carried them to the final.

“The level of play was much more challenging than throughout our season and, while it took some time, the boys did a good job adjusting to the stronger play at the net,” said Tolhurst. “Ultimately, we were disappointed with the result at the time but they should be really proud of getting to the final and the fantastic season we had.”

The Gaels swept past Carleton Place High School and South Grenville District High School in the initial round, and then beat St. Joseph's Catholic High School (Renfrew) in the semis to gain a berth in the final.
