Coronavirus Update

UCDSB Operational Update
(Updated as of June 22)

This is the current status work that the UCDSB is doing to support families and distance learning during the COVID-19 school closure period.

Summer Learning Program
The UCDSB will be running a three week virtual Summer Learning Program from July 6-July 24, 2020.  This program will be based on addressing gaps in literacy and numeracy skills for students in Kindergarten to Grade 8. The program is currently at capacity. Fill out this form to be put on a waiting list.

School Closure Period
On May 19, Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Education Stephen Lecce announced today that the school closure period will extend until the end of June, which means that students will not be returning to our school buildings for the rest of this school year. All administrative offices for the UCDSB are also closed, as well as all school grounds, athletic fields and play structures at this time.

Collection of Personal Belongings from Schools
Schools will be reaching out to parents and students the week of June 8 - June 12. Any person accessing school board premises during the closure in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic must complete the Ontario COVID-19 self-assessment and follow the directions provided.

Personal Belongings Collection Tips

Distance Learning & Resources
The UCDSB has compiled a collection of learning activities suitable for Kindergarten to Grade 8 students that parents can use to promote additional learning opportunities at home. These activities are posted on our Learn at Home web page, which also lists the resources provided by the provincial government.

We have developed a series of printed materials for elementary and secondary students who do not have access to technology or suitable connectivity to do online learning. Parents should contact their school principals should they want printed materials.

View our Learn at Home plan summary that outlines the goals and direction for distant learning during the COVID-19 school closures.

Emergency Child Care Services

The province announced on June 9 that daycares will be allowed to re-open as of June 12. We are currently working with our local health units and third-party child care providers to facilitate access to these spaces within our schools. Any questions regarding opening and spaces should be directed to the child care provider. In April, the UCDSB responded to requests from municipalities to open four emergency child care centres as part of the provincial plan to help front line workers to continue to do their jobs. These child care centres are located at Chesterville Public School, Commonwealth Public SchoolPleasant Corners Public School, South Branch Elementary School and Russell Public School.

Community Resources for Families
As we navigate through these unprecedented times, we want our staff, students and families to know that we are all in this together. While the core function of the school board is to educate students, our relationship with families gives us the opportunity to help beyond academics. Here are some resources:

We will continue to work to get accurate information and share that with you as quickly as possible in order to provide everyone peace of mind.
