Get Involved!

There's always a way to show your school spirit at UCDSB! Our schools have tons of amazing opportunities for everyone to shine in something that they're interested in. Whether it's joining our We All Belong program, Link Crew, Student Council, Student Senate, Volunteering for Champions for Kids or becoming part of an awesome extra-curricular activity, there's always a chance for you to get involved in something that you're interested in!

WEB - Where Everyone Belongs

WEB, which stands for “Where Everybody Belongs” is a middle school orientation and transition program that welcomes Grade 7 students and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their middle school experience. Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, the program trains mentors from the Grade 8 class to be WEB Leaders. As positive role models, WEB Leaders are mentors and student leaders who guide the seventh graders to discover what it takes to be successful during the transition to middle school and help facilitate school success.

WEB also acts as an anti-bullying program for your school by providing it with a team of student leaders who look for bullying behaviour and help stop it. WEB gives older students permission to be aware of and report any negative behaviour they see, creating a safer school for everybody.

Learn more about the WEB program on the Boomerang Project website.

Link Crew

Link Crew is a Grade 9 orientation program led by senior students. The program aims to help incoming students have a smooth and successful transition to high school by providing both academic and social support. The program believes in "Students Helping Students Succeed". Link Crew leaders are committed to being positive role models, team leaders, and peer facilitators. Leaders are dedicated to creating a supportive and positive atmosphere. Leaders aim to pass on the positive traditions and values of the UCDSB that promote school unity and school spirit.

Leaders will gain useful skills in leadership, communication, teamwork, event organization, planning and management - all excellent resume builders and valuable life-long skills.

This is a Grade 12 open/university prep course. It involves leadership training and then applying that training to mentor a group of 8-10 Grade 9 students. There is a major time commitment outside of normal class hours. Leaders may teach time management, conflict resolution or character education lessons, instruct on how to use school resources, or attend free social events.

Student Council

Would you like to make your school year a memorable one? Ask your school how you can get involved in Student Council! It's a great way to have your voice heard and to help make the school year as fun as possible. Typical Student Council activities include planning spirit days, fun days, and activities for students. It's a great way to develop your leadership and teamwork skills while having fun with your friends!

The best way to make sure you have an amazing school year is to be involved in planning it!

Champions for Kids (C4K)

At the UCDSB, we understand how important it is to set our students up for success. That's why in 2008, the UCDSB Champions for Kids Foundation (C4K) was formed. C4K works to help out families of UCDSB students who can benefit from financial support. C4K services are kept confidential, so the families can be supported discreetly. We believe that all students should have the same opportunities, and we hope that we can help even the playing field for those who may need an extra helping hand.

Through the generous support of the community, and our amazing team of volunteers, we've raised over a million dollars since we began! The money has helped hundreds of kids attend summer camp, participate in minor hockey, and minor soccer, paid for dance lessons, and helped families meet their children's medical needs such as paying for eyeglasses, trips for cancer treatment and EpiPens. If you're looking for a fun way to make a big difference in the community, we'd love for you to volunteer with us!

Extra-Curricular Activities

With so many awesome clubs and teams at our various schools, it's almost impossible to not get involved! Most schools have school bands, track and field, sports teams, yearbook committees, student council, link crew, and volunteering opportunities, as well as clubs that are unique to the school. Be sure to find out more about how you can get involved in extra-curriculars and show your school spirit!
