Melanie Spence builds personal bonds and trust with all students in her position as an Educational Assistant at Rideau Vista Public School. She goes out of her way to ensure each student feels valued and happy at school.
When Melanie noticed a quiet student who was not comfortable interacting with others or asking for help, she didn’t hesitate to gently approach them. Due to this, the student felt confident and came out of their shell at school, interacting with more students and speaking in class. According to the student’s parent, this student wouldn’t have had such success without Melanie’s kindness.
Melanie treats each of her students' needs as a top priority, listens carefully to their problems and celebrates their successes. Many students look up to her and consider her to be their friend, in addition to their EA.
Melanie is a team player and works well with the staff at Rideau Vista. She offers creative ideas, plans, and solutions, which make her a valuable member of the team. She listens to those around her and keeps the best interests of others top of mind.
For her dedication to the students at Rideau Vista and her determination to help them succeed, the Upper Canada District School Board is proud to honour Melanie with a Director’s Award of Merit.
